Happy Jack's Restaurant + Bar opened in 2017 in a small community called Houston in Northern B.C. We reinvented what was known as "Happy Jack's Pub" -which was established in 1985. We found out about the opportunity through family and relocated from the Lower Mainland. We established our restaurant concept and served guests there until early 2021.
During our time up North, we had the privilege of meeting and serving the genuine, down to earth, hard working people who make up the community and surrounding area of the Bulkley Valley. Living there provided an opportunity to live the small town life where everybody knows everyone and there is always someone ready with a helping hand.
Always open to an exciting opportunity, we found out about our current location from a friend and proud local Parksville resident in spring 2021. It didn't take much more than the ferry ride, amazing scenery, fresh air and vibrant growing community to sell us on the idea that Parksville could be a place we could call home. We visited the building, which was a former White Spot that had sat empty for many years for lease. We saw the potential and shook hands that this was "the one".
What commenced after that was the huge task of moving and bringing the building back to life. After sitting for so many years with roof leaks there was a lot of restoration that was required. We sold our house and restaurant in Houston and moved 1200kms, living first in Abbotsford and then on to Parksville to get started. It took a little under six months of renovating seven days a week to get the building ready for guests and we couldn't be happier with the end result!
Having now lived in Parksville since the beginning of 2022 we can't imagine living anywhere else. The town is growing, people are friendly, traffic rarely exists, the area is full of areas to explore and the weather is just right. We love living here and encourage anyone looking to exit the "rat race" to first consider the Oceanside Area, you will not be disappointed.
Our first priority is to provide you with a great dining experience; the service, atmosphere and food are all part of this experience and our goal is to take care of every small detail during your visit.
This starts with friendly, personable service that is genuine in it's approach. Our service staff are encouraged to be themselves and to not wait until the check is being paid to start a conversation. From the friendly greeting when you arrive, to the thank you when you depart, our staff are here to serve you.
Atmosphere is all in the details and we are picky about them all. Our goal is to be a modern take on the classic burger joint and so the lighting, music, booths and tables all have been chosen to contribute to the overall feel. Our bar, communal and booth tables were designed and built by talented local Parksville company West Coast Modern Designs.
Our food. It's the main event and represents a combination of details we bring to each meal. This includes utilizing local farms and producers when possible. We have a commitment as we establish ourselves on the island to continue to find ways to integrate this way . We showcase island craft beers on tap and we have B.C. vineyards' offerings as the highlights on our wine list. Our ingredients are always fresh and orders are created specifically for you.
